FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
Are these products legal?
-YES. Neither clones or seeds contain more than .3% THC by weight and therefore are considered to be hemp by the federal government.
What is a Clone?
-A clone or a “cutting” is an asexually propagated portion of a plant which maintains the same genetic code as the mother plant which it was cloned from.
Can I request a different cloning media?
-Yes. Send your cloning media request to contact@vermontgreenery.com and we will get you set.
How do you ship clones?
-We ship clones 2 ways. 1, in a rockwool cube within a clone shipper. 2, in a solocup of promix within a cardboard box
REG vs FEM seeds?
-REG stands for regular which means the seeds are made traditionally using a male and female plant. FEM stands for feminized which means the seeds are made by hormonally reversing a female plant to make it a male which can pollinate another female. This is done using silver, and results in only X chromosomes contributed to the offspring.
What is a “BX”?
-BX stands for “Backcross”. This is done by taking a plant and crossing it back to one of its original parents. The reason for this is to stabilize desirable traits through inbreeding.
What does an “F” signify after the cultivar name?
-The F signifies familial generation. For example, F2xF2=F3, F1xF1=F2,
Why is nothing labeled Indica or Sativa?
-Indica and Sativa are no longer appropriate for describing anything besides its growth habits which can be described in more detail using proper terminology.
What is the best way to germinate seeds?
-Imbibe the seeds with water, place in soil, pointed side facing down, keep warm and humid. Another technique is to place in a wet paper towel within a ziploc bag and keep warm and dark for 24-48 hours, then plant the seed with the initial root (radicle) facing down
Do you do bulk orders?
-Yes we do bulk nursery orders for cultivators. Email Contact@vermontgreenery.com for more info.
Do you breed indoors or outdoors?
We make selections based off performance indoors and outdoors. The majority of our crops are selected and bred outdoors to ensure viability in our relentless Vermont climate. However, in the winter, we do have indoor pollinations from selections we make in the growing season.
Where can I buy actual weed?
-We are sorry to say we cannot sell actual cannabis products at this time, however, in the near future we will have all of our offerings available at a dispensary near you.
What are these stripes on the seeds?
-Those stripes are pigments in the seed coat and are not a measure of how viable the seed is.
How do I germinate the seed?
-Place seeds in water for 12 hours or until the root tip (radicle) emerges from the seed. Plant seed, radicle pointed down, 1/4 inches deep into your medium of choice. For best results, the new roots should not be exposed to light.
How do I grow the plants as well as you do?
-Fill out our contact form to book a consultation.
What does "testing" mean?
-Our hybrids are tested for much more than cannabinoids and terpenes. We test for vigor, commercial viability, trait dominance, and much more to ensure the plants don't just look good on paper, but in your garden, farm or facility as well.
Which genetics wash the best?
-We will specify which genetics wash the best after testing is completed.
Why are they different prices?
-Seed packs that are 60 dollars or less are not tested. These genetics are a bit more of a gamble as the results are undetermined until testing is complete. However, this lower price point offers an opportunity to get a seed pack for less than it will cost when the cross is tested. The same goes for the seed packs that are 80 dollars or more, which are genetics that have all been tested, so the gambling work is taken out for you. These seeds are more valuable as you know what your results will be and can buy based on that information.
What is a "phenohunt"? & How big are your hunts?
-A phenohunt is where you are selecting or "hunting" a specific phenotypic expression (observable characteristics resulting from genotype response to environment) from a wide variety of offspring. This is the backbone of cannabis breeding as there is great variation in cannabis genetics, phenohunts are the tool which breeders select new and unique cultivars. Our phenohunts are a minimum of 24 seeds and a maximum of 300 when we grow a new variety. How many we choose to grow is a balance between how many are available to us, and how great the risk is when growing it, processing it, and selling it, from a business viability standpoint.
